Release the word nerd
These days we all communicate so much both personally and professionally in English. That means that in many cases, at least one person involved is using English as a second language. Clarity and correctness matter. When it’s important to get it right, partner with an expert who can take the pressure off you while taking your English-language text from good enough to great. If you read through these services and still aren’t sure which type of support you need, just ask!
Copy Editing
You will want to reach for support in this category if you already have your text or copy written and need a fresh pair of eyes to look at it objectively. You may simply need proofreading to catch the last typos. You may need someone to make sure your message is structured clearly or even to perform machine translation post-editing. Maybe you need to consider if your message will be understood in another cultural context. Wherever you find yourself with your project, let’s chat and see how we can move it forward together.
Translation
While AI has come a long way and can translate many simple texts adequately, the advantage of a human translator cannot be underestimated. Machines transfer information; humans transfer meaning, nuance and context. Once you have perfected your message in one language, why settle for only adequate in English? I have a Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists and I translate from both German and Swedish to English.
Developmental Editing
This is a fancy way of saying I help you organize your thoughts so you can move forward with your own writing. While this title most typically refers to academic articles and book manuscripts, all it really means is helping a client organize their ideas well while they are still in the draft stage – beforethey have spent too much time refining language. Some clients find this very useful for their websites, for example. The process involves discussion aimed at defining exactly what should be communicated and with what tone, audience and goal in mind and is followed up with recommendations.
WRiting
Not everyone enjoys turning thoughts and ideas into sentences. Luckily, I do! Don’t have time for this? Aren’t sure you can do it and wouldn’t want to anyway? No problem. Anything from a blog post to a user manual to a speech to ghostwriting, internal comms, press releases, training material… you get the idea.
